Finally a low cost and accurate humidity monitor! August 8, 2008 phOtOcat (Clemson, SC, USA) I needed to monitor the humidity in my darkroom for making platinum/palladium as well as other "alternative" process prints in which the humidity level could seriously influence the outcome. I bought one meter after another, all 5 of them gave different readings, some wildly so. Not inexpensive either.
Someone recommended the Caliber III and for under $20 it was a great find: accurate, fast response time, small and unobtrusive. Apparently cigar lovers knew about it way before photographers.
It works June 12, 2008 sotirios basiakos (Thessaloniki, Greece) It works. Can't verify the calibration but it seems fine. Good enough for what I want it.
I give this a thumbs up. June 4, 2008 g3gene I read several reviews on Amazon and elsewhere and for the price ($16.99 from CigarsExtra)bought two.
They track very closely,1-2 % of each other.
Example: T = 75.0F 76.5F RH = 44% 43%
The display is easily to read, and there is a small switch conveniently located on top that allows temperature to be displayed in C or F.
The instructions caution against using the salt test or a wet towel to test the accuracy of the Caliber III. Same goes for placing it in water or an oven. There is no way to adjust the unit.
That said, very precise for a hygrometer in the $20 price range.
I bought two just to watch for any great deviation May 9, 2008 Scott D. Rader after the first two days, they were consistently off by 4% (72% to 76%). Bear in mind I had them next to each other within the humidor for testing purposes. I guess the obvious question is...how accurate a product is this if they are off this much?
EXTREMELY ACCURATE! Buying A Second Unit April 20, 2008 Alexander Hartounian 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I tested this hygrometer in a Humidipak Calibration Kit that is exactly 75.5% Relative Humidity. This unit displayed between 75 & 76% which is pretty much dead-on accurate! It only shows in 1 point increments not tenths which is just fine. I was surpised since it only costs $20 and its as accurate as the professional testing equipment. I am currently using this inside my cigar humidor but will purchase a second one for our bedroom.
